SummaryThe position of a Bus Driver Trainer is for the purpose of training, evaluating, and maintaining a safe, compliant and efficient Transportation Department while providing support for the Administrator(s) of the department.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provides school bus training and operational safety programs for school bus drivers for the purpose of ensuring student safety and compliance with OSPI and District procedures;
- Coordinates and instructs both classroom and behind-the-wheel training for the purpose of evaluating and reviewing the job knowledge of applicants to meet state certification requirements;
- Assists with “on-scene” and follow-up investigations of District school bus-related accidents and safety-related incidents for the purpose of providing documentation to meet legal requirements and District policy;
- Maintains transportation personnel information for the purpose of providing documentation for audits, meeting state and federal requirements, and per District policy;
- Observes performance of bus drivers and applicants, including annual safety performance check rides, for the purpose of ensuring that basic skill levels are met and in compliance with state certification requirements;
- Educates students, parents, and staff for the purpose of providing a safe transportation environment, enforcing state (OSPI) rules and regulations, and District policy;
- Coordinates and instructs the driver safety program for the purpose of complying with state regulations and department protocols;
- Oversees the driver mentor program for the purpose of ensuring that basic skill levels are met and in compliance with state requirements and District policy;
- Conducts retraining as needed;
- Participates in meetings and trainings for the purpose of maintaining skills and meeting the requirements of school bus driver certification and conveying information to drivers;
- Assists other transportation personnel as needed for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities;
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of ensuring proper responses and safe conditions;
- Responsible for working with district staff and parents concerning bus routing, bus stops, scheduling and school boundaries for the purpose of safe, efficient and effective transportation system operation;
- Provides instruction and guidance to bus drivers when stops, runs or routes change for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective service;
- Provides back-up assistance in accordance with established procedures for the purpose of providing a safe and effective transportation system.

Specific vision required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
Education And Experience
- High School graduate or equivalent;
- Expertise to perform multiple technical and non-technical tasks;
- Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired;
- Driver safety training experience is preferred;
- School Bus Driving experience preferred;
- Experience working in a Union environment is preferred.
Clearances
- Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance;
- Driver’s abstract.
Certificates & Licenses
- Commercial Driving License (CDL) with P&S endorsem*nt;
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License required (must be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position, including possessing and maintaining a valid license and automobile insurance, when using a personal vehicle for District business;
- Washington State School Bus Driver Trainer’s Certification;
- First Aid and CPR Certification required.
