One Piece: 16 Characters Who Can Beat Blackbeard (2024)

Marshall D. Teach, aka Blackbeard, is one of the Four Emperors of the Sea in One Piece. He was once an underling of the legendary Whitebeard, however, after defecting from the crew, he established his own pirate crew and has, since then, been growing in power rapidly.

Blackbeard is exceptionally powerful right now, as indicated by his 3.996 billion berry bounty. He is still growing in strength and, being one of the biggest villains in One Piece, he's naturally very powerful. With One Pieceentering its final saga, Blackbeard is now involved in the story more than ever before, and currently, only a handful of people can beat him.

Given that he is the only person with the ability to wield two overpowered Devil Fruits, Blackbeard is a force to be reckoned with for anyone. In the current era of One Piece, only a handful of individuals can stand up to him. However, that certainly does not mean that there is no one that can defeat him. When one takes into consideration the powerful individuals from the past of the One Piece world, even more characters emerge who possess the might to defeat this monster in combat. While this list already goes over the vast majority of the characters strong enough to defeat Blackbeard, there are others who have a fair shot at beating him as well. As such, this list has now been updated.

21 Sakazuki

The Current Fleet Admiral

Sakazuki is the current Fleet Admiral of the Navy and likely the strongest in their forces right now. He is a user of the Magu Magu no Mi, a Logia-type of Devil Fruit that turns him into magma and allows him to manipulate it freely. Sakazuki is extremely powerful, and his devil fruit is known to possess the offensive power of the highest order.

At the same time, he also has a very powerful Haki. While he isn't confirmed to have Conqueror's Haki just yet, given that the previous Fleet Admiral had this power, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that he has it as well. Regardless, he is capable of beating Blackbeard and the latter has already run from him on one occasion.

20 Dracule Mihawk

The Strongest Swordsman

Dracule Mihawk is the World's Strongest Swordsman in One Piece and a man worth 3.590 billion berries. Undoubtedly, he is among the strongest characters in the story and one certainly capable of fighting Blackbeard.

Mihawk was strong enough to compete with Shanks once upon a time and, currently, given that he is in his prime, he can certainly challenge the Yonko. Even though Blackbeard is extremely overpowered, Mihawk is someone who can certainly hold his own against him and, perhaps, even win.

19 Boa Hanco*ck

The Empress of Amazon Lily

The Pirate Empress and the leader of the Kuja Pirates, Boa Hanco*ck is one of the former Warlords of the Sea. She has a bounty of 1.659 billion berries on her head and that just goes to show how big a threat she is in the world of One Piece. Hanco*ck possesses one of the most overpowered Devil Fruits in the story.

Blackbeard himself admitted to the fact that, if given the opportunity, Hanco*ck can turn him to stone within a matter of seconds. Furthermore, she is also a user of all three Haki types and it wouldn't be a surprise to see her being a user of the advanced form of the Color of the Supreme King as well.

18 Prime Rayleigh

Roger's Right Hand Man

Rayleigh is one character who fans know to be incredibly overpowered in One Piece. In fact, in the Final Saga of the story, Rayleigh came face to face with Blackbeard on Amazon Lily as he was trying to de-escalate the situation on the island.

There, Rayleigh made a grand presence and it became quite clear for the fans to see that he could certainly take on Blackbeard in combat. However, it must also be noted that Rayleigh himself mentioned that in a long dragged-out fight, he would likely end up losing to Blackbeard. That said, this also means that in his prime, when Rayleigh was much younger and stronger, he could have potentially defeated Blackbeard in combat. Unfortunately, fans will never know who the stronger between these two characters truly was.

17 Sengoku

The Marine Fleet Admiral

One of the legendary figures of the One Piece world, Sengoku is the former Fleet Admiral of the Marines. He is extremely powerful, thanks to his incredible Mythical Zoan Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Buddha fruit. Of course, on top of that, he also has incredible Haki and he's one of the only two Marines to have access to all three kinds of Haki. He is a legendary figure whose name is spoken of in the same breath as the likes of Roger, Whitebeard, and Garp.

Of course, he's old right now, however, he doesn't seem to be suffering from any health-related complications. At the same time, fans should also remember that Sengoku, in his prime, was an absolute monster and he would certainly be capable of defeating Blackbeard if these two ended up fighting at their very best.

16 Monkey D. Dragon

The Leader of The Revolutionary Army

The Commander in Chief of the Revolutionary Army, Monkey D. Dragon is the World's Worst Criminal and an extremely dangerous man. Not much has been revealed about Dragon so far, however, given that his commanders all boast incredible strength and influence in the world, Dragon is set to be extremely powerful.

Both his son and his father are known powerful figures in the world. Dragon himself is certainly going to be extremely dangerous as well. It goes without saying that he will be a user of advanced Conqueror's Haki.

On top of this, Dragon also has his unique fighting style called Ryusoken. What's more, he could also possess a Devil Fruit power related to wind and all that would make him powerful enough to potentially beat Blackbeard.

15 Monkey D. Garp

The Hero Of The Marine

Monkey D. Garp is a Vice Admiral of the Navy and the strongest Marine to ever live in the world of One Piece. Garp is exceptionally powerful and his level of strength is very high even though he is in his old age and has weakened quite a bit. Garp is a user of all the Haki types and he also possesses the power to coat himself in the Color of the Supreme King.

Garp was seen launching an assault on the Pirate Island recently and he did this knowing that Blackbeard could be there. In contrast, Rayleigh openly admitted that he would not be able to take down Blackbeard. Garp is certainly in a league of his own and if Whitebeard's performance in Marineford is anything to go by, Garp is certainly capable of taking on Blackbeard and, perhaps, even beating him.

14 Monkey D. Luffy

The Future Pirate King

Monkey D. Luffy is the protagonist of One Piece and currently, he is one of the Yonko of the Sea. Luffy is extremely powerful, especially after the Awakening of his Devil Fruit which has turned him into the Warrior of Liberation, the Sun God, Nika. Luffy and Blackbeard are destined to fight against each other.

While Blackbeard is eternal darkness, Luffy is the sun. Of course, eventually, Luffy will triumph over Blackbeard and he already has the power to do so. With his Awakened Devil Fruit as well as his Haki, which has been advanced in all three spheres, Luffy possesses the power to beat Blackbeard.

13 Shiki

The Flying Pirate

Known as the Flying Pirate, Shiki was a monstrously powerful individual who ruled a significant portion of the Grand Line long ago. He's a pirate in the same league as the likes of Roger, Whitebeard, Sengoku, and Garp. Undoubtedly, Shiki possesses monstrous strength that can only be rivaled by a select few individuals. In fact, in all-out combat, Shiki possessed the largest armada on the Grand Line that could have crushed the Roger Pirates as well, had a storm not struck and saved Roger and his crew.

In terms of physical strength, Shiki is no less than a yonko of the One Piece world, and he possesses tremendous Haki, along with masterful swordsmanship. His biggest strength is the power of the Fuwa Fuwa no Mi, which allows him to make Non-Living things levitate, making this a monstrously powerful ability, especially against Blackbeard, since he can simply attack him from afar. Given that he is an individual in the same league as the likes of Roger and Whitebeard, it should not come as a surprise to the fans to know that he has a fair shot at beating Blackbeard. However, the reverse could easily be true as well.

Big Mom is one of the most elite pirates to have lived in the world of One Piece. Her 4.388 billion berry bounty goes to show for it. Big Mom possesses an incredible ability of the Soru Soru No Mi, which allows her to manipulate Souls. She can extract the souls from those who fear her directly, and she can also grant souls to anyone, be it a living or a non-living creature.

Big Mom can create powerful homies to aid her in combat, and she can even consume her own soul to give her a power buff. At full strength, Big Mom is known to be a monster in the same league as Kaido, which goes to show how powerful she truly is. She can wield all three types of Haki, having trained advanced Conqueror's Haki to an extreme level. All in all, Big Mom is certainly an individual who can rival and defeat Blackbeard, however, the reverse could also be true. It would be quite an open battle between these two individuals if they were to ever fight.

11 Oden

The Strongest Wano Samurai

Kozuki Oden is a legendary samurai from Wano and quite easily one of the most underrated characters in One Piece. Oden is a pirate known to be in the same league as the likes of Roger, Rocks, Shanks, and Whitebeard. He's an absolute monster whose control over Haki was immense. Oden could use all three types of Haki, and he could use the advanced forms of at least two types, those being Conqueror's as well as Armament. Everything about him, from his strength, skill, and resilience, to willpower was absolutely sensational.

In his prime, when Oden had returned from his adventures with Roger and Whitebeard, he had hit a level of strength where he could have killed Kaido, had he not been distracted. Any individual capable of killing Kaido could kill Blackbeard as well.

10 Kaido

The Strongest Creature on Land, Sea, And Air

One of the former Four Emperors, Kaido was an incredibly monstrous fighter until recently in the story. He ruled over Wano with an iron fist for over 20 years, and during that time, he continued to build his strength up. He had one of the most overpowered Devil Fruits, and that is the Mythical Zoan azure dragon fruit. At the same time, Kaido did not show any callousness in training his Haki.

He trained every single aspect of his Haki, such as training his Observation Haki to a point where he could see the future, the advanced version of Armament Haki and, of course, Conqueror's Haki infusion, which was his greatest weapon. Kaido was an absolute monster in combat and his performance in Wano just goes to show that he was truly a phenomenal fighter the likes of which can hardly be matched by any. If he were to fight against Blackbeard, then he could potentially have defeated him.

9 Warcury

One Of The Five Elders

Warcury is one of the Five Elders of the One Piece world who was recently name-dropped in the series. Although he was believed to be just a political figure by many until recently, he is now confirmed to be one of the strongest fighters in the world. Warcury is the Warrior God of Justice and certainly possesses tremendous combative prowess.

At the same time, he also possesses a Devil Fruit power, likely a Mythical Zoan, however, fans do not know what exactly this power is. Nonetheless, it was enough for Sabo to call him one of the residents of hell itself. Being one of the highest powers of the One Piece world and potentially even immortal, Warcury certainly stands a chance of defeating Blackbeard.

8 Ju Peter

Ju Peter is another one of the Five Elders who was named dropped recently in One Piece. He is the Warrior God of Agriculture and a very powerful figure, given that he serves Imu directly. At the same time, Peter also possesses a Devil Fruit power, however, his fruit ability appears to be mysterious as fans can't make out what creature the silhouette resembled the most.

That said, it is likely going to be a Mythical Zoan as well, given that all members of the Five Elders appear to hold similar powers. Just like the others, Ju Peter can most likely defeat Blackbeard as well.

7 Saint Saturn

One Of The Five Elders And Warrior Gods

Saint Saturn is a character who fans are finding out more about with each passing chapter. He is the primary antagonist of the Egghead Island arc. When it comes to authority, Saturn stands over the vast majority of those in the One Piece world, thanks to his status as one of the Five Elders. However, it was only recently that fans found out that he also possesses tremendous strength to match his authority.

Saturn is incredibly powerful and he possesses the ability of the Ushi Oni. He showcased this power on Egghead Island and it was clear for the fans to see that he had awakened his fruit as well. Saturn has the power to cause damage to his opponents without even making contact with them. He can also pin them down by using some mysterious force and, of course, he has a tremendous regeneration factor.

He likely has other abilities up his sleeve as well and fans will find out more about them as the story progresses. Blackbeard is certainly incredibly powerful, however, Saturn is one of the chosen ones from Imu and the Science Warrior God who likely lived through the Void Century. He is certainly going to have a great chance of defeating Blackbeard.

6 Mars

The Warrior God Of The Environment

Mars is one of the strongest members of the World Government, given that he is one of the Five Elders and, at the same time, he is also one of the most dangerous. He is the Warrior God of the Environment and he also possesses a Devil Fruit ability. His devil fruit resembles a Mythical Zoan bird-like creature, however, what exactly this creature is remains to be seen.

Mars most certainly possesses tremendous power up his sleeve and now that One Piece is in the Final Saga, fans will surely get to witness it soon.

5 V. Nusjuro

A Wielder Of a Supreme Grade Sword

V. Nusjuro is the Warrior God of Finance and also a member of the Five Elders in One Piece. He is the bald member of the Five Elders and one who carries a Supreme Grade sword, Shodai Kitetsu. The fact that he carries this weapon in itself means that he is among the strongest in the entire world.

At the same time, he also seems to have a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit power, likely a variant of the Hito Hito no Mi, just like Luffy. Nusjuro will surely have his full power revealed eventually and fans will most certainly find that he has a shot at defeating Blackbeard.

4 Shanks

The Strongest Yonko

Shanks has been an enigma for the vast majority of One Piece, however, with the Final Saga now in motion, he has entered the fray as well. He is one of the Four Emperors of the Sea and likely the strongest of the lot at the moment. He has a bounty of 4.0489 billion berries on his head, which is the highest active bounty in One Piece at the moment.

Shanks does not possess any Devil Fruit powers at the moment, however, what he does possess is an incredibly overpowered Haki. With it, he can certainly pose a challenge and, perhaps, even beat Blackbeard.

3 Whitebeard/Roger

The Strongest Man In The World

Of course, the strongest man in the world, Whitebeard, is an individual capable of killing Blackbeard, and that goes without saying. Whitebeard was a monster who could tie a battle with Roger. He possessed the power of the Gura Gura no Mi, which allowed him to create quakes out of thin air. However, that wasn't his only weapon in combat. Whitebeard had access to incredibly overpowered Haki, and he had advanced his Conqueror's Haki to the next level, as was seen when he fought against Roger.

Meanwhile, Roger, despite not having any devil fruits, was strong enough to conquer the entire world. His strength was on part with Whitebeard, if not greater, and he certainly wielded the greatest Haki of all.

2 Rocks

The Aspiring King Of The World

Rocks is a legendary figure from the history books in the One Piece world who could potentially have been the strongest of all pirates. Rocks was Roger's most formidable enemy, even bigger than Whitebeard. Rocks was tremendously overpowered, but it is unknown what ability he possessed.

What fans know is that he held the ambition to become the king of the world, and that he was such a massive force that Roger and Garp had to club their strength to defeat him. Undoubtedly, Rocks held enough power to beat nearly anyone, including Blackbeard.
