Why is my Masterbuilt smoker not staying hot? ›

No Power or Gas Supply-Check to see if there are any blown fuses or tripped breakers in your electrical panel. Faulty Heating Element-Check whether the element has burns or is partially melted. Bad temperature controller-Check your controller whether it is working properly or not.

Check the power cord for any damage or loose connections. If it is damaged, you may need to replace it. Additionally, ensure that the smoker's power switch is in the "on" position. If the smoker still won't turn on, it's possible that there is an issue with the control panel or the heating element.

Every time your wood chips burn up and you stop seeing smoke, you'll want to add more wood chips to the wood tray and hold the door open slightly so some heat can escape, forcing the heating element to come back on and get the wood to smoking.

There is potential the fan has malfunctioned. If the grill is experiencing a flare up, turn OFF the unit, shut the lid and allow the flare up to extinguish itself. Allow the grill to cool down before restarting.

If you experience temperature fluctuations, you may need to do the following. Open up the dampers to allow more airflow if the fire is slowly going out and the temperatures are slowly dropping. Add more fuel i.e. charcoal or wood if your charcoal/timber is starting to run low.

Clean the fire pot: A dirty or clogged fire pot can obstruct the airflow, leading to inadequate heat production. Remove any ash or debris from the fire pot and ensure that it is clean and free from obstructions. Check the auger motor: The auger motor is responsible for feeding the pellets into the fire pot.

Power OFF your cooking device. Unplug your cooking device from the wall. Wait 5 minutes, plug it back in. Your controller is reset - check to see if problem persists.

If the appliance doesn't turn on, contact an electrician. Connections: Inspect your unit for loose wiring and faulty connections. These are especially prominent if you recently performed maintenance or replaced a smoker component.

You get them wet, the element drys them out and THEN they start to burn. Soaking chips is for when you drop them straight onto red hot charcoal. Putting in dry chip, you'll see approximately every 30 minutes you can add more chip. If this is annoying, buy the Masterbuilt cold smoking kit and put pellets in it.

Allow the grill to come up to temperature. Remove your wood chips from the water or your dry wood chunks and spread evenly over the lit charcoal. Close lid and adjust any vents as needed. Wait until you see clean, almost blue smoke coming from your grill before adding your food.

Unplug and reconnect the heating element by removing the cover plate located on the back of the smoker and try again. If that doesn't solve this issue the heating element will need to be replaced. Refer your manual on how to locate and replace the heating element.

Lack of air flow is one of the predominant reasons why wood chips won't smoke properly. Quality equipment is always designed with insulation to keep heat from escaping but all equipment has at least some level of venting built in.

It's possible that the thermostat is faulty and not sending power to the heating element. You can test the thermostat with a multimeter to see if it's working properly. Inspect the power cord and outlet:Make sure the power cord is not damaged and is securely plugged into a working outlet.

During the cook, just use the flue damper to increase or decrease the airflow through the smoker. If you find the smoker is getting too hot, just close the damper further. If you find the smoker is cooling down too much open the damper up and consider putting more wood in the firebox.

Faulty control board: A malfunctioning control board can impact your smoker's ability to regulate temperature. To alleviate the issue, clean the circuit board with a rag or soft brush and use compressed air to blow away excess dust. Before cleaning your control board, verify that the smoker is not connected to power.

Insufficient Airflow

Adequate airflow is crucial for maintaining a consistent temperature in your offset smoker. Check for any obstructions in the chimney, firebox, or vents and clean them.

Preheat and Set Up the Smoker: Preheat your smoker to the desired temperature. For most long smoking sessions, a temperature range of 225°F to 245°F is common. Maintain Temperature and Smoke Levels: Keep a close eye on the smoker's temperature and ensure a consistent level of smoke throughout the cooking process.
