FAQs about this Slow Cooker Beef Noodles Recipe

Can I make this with another kind of meat?

You could try the same recipe using diced pork shoulder or lamb instead if you prefer or want a different variation.

My sauce is quite runny. What can I do?

Don’t worry, this can happen depending on the noodle brand and how much liquid they absorb as they cook. To thicken the sauce, once the noodles are cooked, just add 1 tbsp of cornflour mixed with 2 tbsp of water and stir through the dish.

Can I use different vegetables?

Yes, you can mix this up as much or as little as you like. Here I’ve used green pepper and sugar snap peas, but you can try whatever you prefer. Baby sweetcorn or mangetout are also good options.

Can you recommend a good slow cooker for a gas hob?

I find the Morphy Richards Sear & Stew Slow Cooker to be the best one because you can use it for initial browning on the hob for other dishes and it’s really light.

Can you recommend the best slow cooker for an induction hob?

For this one I would definitely say the Lakeland Digital 6.5l Slow Cooker.

I’d like to use a slow cooker but don’t have a lot of time in the mornings. What can I do?

Convenience is key, but then again, even slow cookers have to be filled and switched on! You could always get the ingredients ready the evening before, put everything in the slow cooker pan and store in the fridge overnight. In the morning, simply place in the slow cooker frame and switch on, or use this WiFi plug to switch on later in the day remotely!

FAQs

Can I put dry noodles in the crockpot? ›

If you've done this before, you might opt to add dry noodles to the slow cooker near the end of the sauce cook time. Give the sauce about 15-20 minutes, then add in your dry pasta. Allocating this amount of time will help you avoid mushy pasta.

When should I add noodles to slow cooker? ›

For soups, add dry pasta after cooking.

Broth-based slow cooker dinners need their dry pasta added at just the right moment — add the pasta too early and your noodles will be mushy before they get to the table. Adding dry pasta 30 to 4o minutes before serving means you'll have perfectly cooked pasta in your soup.

Can pasta be cooked in the slow cooker? ›

To keep pasta from becoming mushy in the crock pot, be sure to check for doneness periodically and serve once they are tender. It takes slow cooker pasta 3 to 4 hours on low or 1 to 2 hours on high. Check pasta doneness sooner than later, especially as some slow cookers are more powerful than others.

What is the best beef for slow cookers? ›

Here are the very best beef cuts to keep on hand to slow cook:
  • Chuck steak.
  • Round steak.
  • Blade steak.
  • Topside.
  • Silverside.
  • Skirt steak.
  • Shin (gravy) beef.
  • Sausages.

Why did my noodles turn to mush in the crockpot? ›

Why did my noodles turn to mush in the crockpot? One of the most common reasons for mushy noodles is overcooking. Pasta, including noodles, has a relatively short cooking time compared to other ingredients typically prepared in a crockpot.

Can I cook dry noodles in sauce? ›

By skipping the separate boiling of the pasta and instead adding the dried noodles straight to the sauce, you can make a weeknight-friendly meal in just one pot. Bonus: It makes the pasta more flavorful, too.

How long does dry pasta take to cook? ›

Most dried ribbons of pasta such as linguine, spaghetti and tagliatelle take between 8-10 mins. Shorter, thicker pasta shapes like bows or penne take 10-12mins and fresh pasta such as ravioli and tortellini will be done between 3-5mins.

When using a slow cooker do you add water? ›

How much liquid do I add? Water or liquid is necessary to create steam. When cooking meat or poultry, the water or liquid level should cover the ingredients to ensure effective heat transfer throughout the crock. Some manufacturers of slow cookers recommend adding liquid to fill the stoneware 1/2 to 3/4 full.

Do you add liquid to slow cooker? ›

Slow cookers have tight-fitting lids, which means they create rather than evaporate liquid in the cooking. A slow cooker does not need any liquid added at the beginning of the cooking process, because it will generate steam, which will become liquid in the bowl.

Can you cook pasta in sauce rather than water? ›

Cooking pasta in the sauce instead of in boiling water will increase the amount of time it takes to cook through. It's a good technique to use if you want to delay serving your pasta for a few minutes. Make sure to keep the sauce thinned out with pasta water as the pasta finishes cooking if you use this method.

Can you cook pasta in any liquid? ›

Substitute water with chicken, beef or vegetable stock to cook pasta. Alternately, you can top off a pan of boiling water with a cup or two of broth or stock. The pasta will still soak up the extra flavor, and you'll save money and have more broth or stock on hand to use another day.

Why is my beef tough in slow cooker? ›

Meat that is over-cooked, even if it's submerged in liquid, will eventually dry-out, and get tough, and different cuts of meat cook differently. There are a few reasons for that. Not having enough liquid in the pot can do it. A poor cut of meat can result in toughness as well.

Can you put beef in a slow cooker raw? ›

Yes! that is one of the best way to cook meats! Put in some raw beef brisket, leave it in for the 6+ hours, and once it is ready…it is so tender! Slow cookers are so great as you can just throw everything in and no need to worry about it.

Can you cook things dry in a slow cooker? ›

I've made "dry" dishes, such as meat loaf and shepherd's pie (and brownies, once) in my slow cooker. I've done it 2 ways. I've never had an issue. If you want to cook a casserole or a pie use an oven as it will deliver even heat all around.

Can you cook dry noodles? ›

To stir-fry dry egg noodles, cook them according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process. Heat a wok or skillet with some oil, stir-fry your favorite vegetables, proteins, and seasonings, then toss in the cooked noodles and stir-fry until heated through.

How do you moisten dry noodles? ›

The best way to reheat noodles that haven't been tossed with sauce is to place them in a metal strainer and dip them into a pot of boiling water until they're warmed through, about 30 seconds. This will not only keep them from drying out—the quick hit of intense heat will prevent them from getting mushy, too.
