10 must-eat gay restaurants in Bangkok (2024)

We loved having dinner at Tapas Cafe before heading to the bars and clubs. It's located next door to Balcony and opposite Stranger, which makes it super convenient.

Whilst they serve up tasty Spanish tapas, they also do excellent local Thai dishes, which we recommend. The staff are hilarious – friendly, bursting with smiles and super cute.

We recommend getting a table outside to watch passers-by and soak up the buzzy atmosphere of Silom Soi 4.

Circus and Pride Bar are owned by the same gay couple – Pride is where the kitchen is based and Circus where we love to go for drinks and drag shows.

We like to get a front-row seat outside at Circus and eat there before getting drinks. As far as we're concerned, they do one of THE best Pad Thais in all of Bangkok (there, we officially declared it!)

They also specialize in other traditional Thai curries, salads, and soups. This is one of the best places to hang out and be seen along the Silom Soi 4 strip.

If you head down the street opposite Silom Soi 4 and turn the corner into Phiphat 2 you'll find one of the most sophisticated gay eateries in the area.

Eat Me Restaurant may sound more like something I reserve for Seby for his birthday(!), it's actually a very classy place with beautiful artwork on the walls and an excellent fusion menu.

They specialize in dishes from all over the world, like grilled Dutch harbour King crab, Japanese wagyu beef or duck confit. We had the most incredible homemade spicy chili dark chocolate ice cream for dessert! Definitely one to bring a hot date to, to impress!

For a little slice of hipster cool, don't miss out on the Lon Lon Local Diner. It's popular with locals for lunch and dinner.

We love coming here for drinks and gap glaem (Thai drinking snacks) before heading out to the gay bars of Bangkok.

Lon Lon are renowned for their crispy salted pork belly and lychee martinis. Oh, and their dessert menu is simply decadent! Seby hit up the salted coconut ice cream with caramel sauce (oh he sure loves his caramel!). For me the black sesame coconut and orange ice cream please…don't knock it till you've tried it!

When we first saw pictures online about the Unicorn Cafe we knew we had to check it out!

This place just feels correct! The interior looks like a rainbow unicorn exploded, with unicorn dolls everywhere, colourful unicorn wallpaper, pink chandeliers and pastel-coloured couches.

The food is colorful and rainbow-themed, like the rainbow waffles that come with a little unicorn horn.

The highilght? Rent a unicorn onesie to lounge about in! The Unicorn Cafe is around 10 minutes walk from the main gay strip of Silom but worth the effort!

Luka is one of our favorite gay brunch spots in Bangkok. It's a short tuk-tuk ride from Silom Soi 4 but worth the short journey.

They serve nostalgic comfort food like peanut butter and banana pancakes, grilled cheese sandwiches or carrot cake.

Even though it's in the middle of such a crazy city, Luka feels like you've somehow slipped off into the jungle, with greenery both outside and in, along with calming rustic wooden furniture.

Luka is also pet-friendly, so it's perfect if you're hoping to meet cute pups to pat!

Rocket Coffeebar is one of the best places in Bangkok to go for coffee and cafe-style food. It's around 15 minutes walk from Silom Soi 4 to Luka (or a quick Tuk-Tuk ride).

It's one of the best places to meet a Grindr date…just sayin…

Rocket Coffeebar offers western dishes and coffee with a Scandinavian twist. I watched in awe/amazement as Seby chowed down on fluffy pancakes, poached eggs with house-cured salmon with a hearty breakfast burrito to wash it all down with…!

I can't judge. I love their indulgent hot cocoa: made by melting a chocolate popsicle into a cup of steamed milk. It's goooooood!

Cabbages & Condoms

Cabbages & Condomsis one of the most unique restaurants we've ever been to! The whole concept was created around the idea of promoting education on contraception and family planning.

Condoms have been used in the decor, with lampshades made from them and mannequins throughout the restaurant in all sorts of crazy costumes entirely made up of condoms! There's even a gift shop where you can buy quirky gifts and souvenirs.

The food is excellent here too, with Thai favorites like Tom Yum Goong, pad Thai and Seby's favorite, mango sticky rice. We like to invite a new group of friends here every time we're in town, usually to watch their faces as they take in the unique decor, but also because the food is really well cooked!

Sühring

You can't miss out on visitingRestaurant Sühringwhile you're in Bangkok. It's often lauded as one of the best restaurants in the world!

The restaurant is the brain-child of German twin chefs Mathias and Thomas Sühring, who have renovated a gorgeous 1970s villa to create a homey space for dining on exquisite cuisine.

Dishes are influenced by European flavors and techniques, with a strong focus on German fare from the childhood of the twins.

For a two-star Michelin restaurant, it's also quite playful – we were delighted to see a currywurst street food tribute served in a box complete with a wooden fork just like the ones we've had in gay Berlin!

Indus

Bangkok is one of those cities that's so multicultural you can have traditional German cuisine one night and Indian the next!

We had some of the best Indian food we've tasted outside of India at the stunningIndusrestaurant. Not only is the restaurant decorated with authentic Indian antique furniture, beautiful artwork, and frescoes, but they serve the most perfectly executed Indian dishes.

We dined on a decadent feast of chicken tikka, a malabar prawn curry, garlic naan, and gulab jamun. Everything was scrumptious! They also do some amazing set menus for brunch, lunch, and an ‘Epic Thali' (pictured).
